Starting today, one Friday every month will be dedicated to highlighting a worthy philanthropic cause.
I got the idea for this new series back in December, but decided to postpone it until February for good reason. You may have already noticed that February is American Heart Month and
today is National Wear Red Day. What better cause to kick off this series
than one whose focus is the #1 killer of all Americans.

Like far too many women, my Mom is living with cardiovascular disease. But since suffering a heart attack 3 years ago, my Mom has been kicking heart disease in the teeth on a daily basis. Women in America are dying at a rate of 1 per minute from heart disease but my Mom is determined not to be one of them.
Since her diagnosis, she's lost her goal of 60lbs, has completely changed her diet,
and just ran her first 10K before Christmas. At 63. In short, she's a badass.

And in her honor I'm joining my company's Heart walk/run 5K today and attending a fundraiser tonight
for Go Red For Women & the American Heart Association at Cajun Canvas.
But just as important, I'm doing my part to increase awareness by wearing red today. And you can too!

Wow I have chills from this post!! What an excellent idea to focus on philanthropies each month. And your mom sounds amazing!
Wow your mom is amazing!
And that is such a scary statistic, I don't think of women when I think of heart disease, I'm gonna check out the BetterU Program for recipes!
xo
I am very proud to call you my friend you ballzy, funny, honest, and have one of the biggest hearts. I love this idea for each month.
Yes our mom is a total BADASS! I now see where you get it from. I never knew those statistics now I am aware and it scares me to think of that. Everyone needs more awareness.
I will proudly wear red in honor of you Mom today tell her she is one Rockin Chick!
Erin: Thank you so much-I'm proud of her too! I'm thrilled you liked the post :)
Kelly: Well thank you! I'll be doing a philanthropic post once a month so if you have any ideas of causes you would love to hear more about feel free to pass them along. And ditto - I love that red sweater too ;)
Beth: I couldn't agree more, she is pretty awesome. She'll be tickled pink to see all of these sweet comments from you Ladies! Thank you for wearing red!
Amy: Oh thank you so much. The Today Show anchors are wearing red? Best news I've heard all day! Heart disease needs BIG exposure -that's terrific! And thank you for wearing some red, doll :) I love it!
Leslie: Thank you doll, I couldn't agree more. My Mom is pretty amazing :) Another reason why it's so great to be Georgia girls - we have lots of red in our closets!
Christina: That is a scary statistic, right? In the 30 minutes since you left your comment here 30 Americans have died from heart disease. That's just unacceptable to me, especially when we can prevent it just by eating better & exercising. As a Mother of all girls, I'm sure this really impacted you. So thrilled you're checking out the BetterU program! Let me know what you think! Thank you so much for your sweet comment :)
Kelli: Aww, you are so sweet! I'm thrilled to call you my friend as well :) I'm so glad all of you love this idea for the blog. And you're right, any badass in me comes from my Mom, haha. Thank you for wearing red today!!

Congrats to your mom. That is GREAT!
Got you on the sidebar today! Sometimes, it takes me forever to do things. Haven't even looked at my dashboard in a week so this will help me get to your posts more quickly.
Ally, I am going to Charlotte, but it's a very quick visit. One night only. I wish I had more time, but it's hard with sitters for the kids. This will be the first time my husband and I been away without a kid in two years. Long overdue.
Your mom rocks. That's all!
