Currently...

It's been more than a hot minute since I last wrote a Currently post. And I don't know why; these are always so much fun to pen and even more fun reading all of your comments. So let's get going...

Currently, I'm staying up a bit late blogging and basking in the excellence of a phenomenal win over UNC by my Duke Blue Devils! Crazy game that not-surprisingly was tight and came down to a last minute, epic 3pt bomb! Before you ask, yes I'm a double UGA Grad, but my Dad was a Duke Law Grad. So I grew up a Blue Devil in addition to being a Bulldog. Pretty awesome combo if you ask me ;) Oh and did I mention that my Dawgs spanked Arkansas last night too? I am currently one happy sports fan...

Eating: Wednesday nights at our house have become tv nights. We love & rarely miss Modern Family and Revenge. Add to that 2 big basketball games and our fannies didn't move off the couch. Bliss. So we grilled out these Bacon Jalapeno burgers with Chipotle Mayo. And I made sweet potato fries, a mixed greens salad, and grabbed some Bell Ringer Ales. I ran 5 miles & went to Pure Barre after work, so no guilt.

Wishing: I'm wishing for a lot of things at the moment. Mostly I wish Jeff & I had a vacation planned for sooner than this summer. I'd love nothing more than 4 or 5 days at the beach with both of our families, laying out, making big dinners, building sandcastles with my nephews, reading a good book, and getting lots of sleep. Sounds divine, right?

Wearing: My wardrobe is all about what I refer to as Career Barbie. How on earth did I get to the stage in life where my closet is dominated by business attire? Three years ago I was back on campus working on my Masters. Before that I was working in western Africa & travelling everywhere. I had no use for pencil skirts & 4 inch heels. Now I'm a grown up. Career Girl. Gulp. What I've been wearing:

1 / 2 / 3 / 4

Running: Since Spring arrived in January this year, I've been running outside a lot more than I would otherwise, you know like if it were really winter. So on these super gorgeous days we've had in western NC lately, I've have been heading over to The National Whitewater Center to run the trails. I could/should write a post on how blessed Queen City folks like us are to have this amazing outdoor paradise at our disposal. If you're ever near Charlotte, you must stop by the USNWC. There's whitewater rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, zip lines, canopy tours, and more plus concerts on the river during the summer. It's incredible!

Reading: I'm one of those weird people that likes reading 3 or 4 books at a time. I'll read 30 pages or a couple of chapters in one book, then switch to another. I'm so indecisive that way. I can't ever stick with just one book. So here's what's dog-eared on my bedside table at the moment:

1 / 2 /
Btw, If you're not on GoodReads yet, you should check it out. It's my favorite social media! You can keep track of what you're reading, get customized recommendations of new books based on your likes, and read great reviews from your friends & other voracious readers. Plus you can find me there too!

Listening: Most of the music I listen to are tunes that make me run faster. When I'm in the car, I'm either on the phone or listening to a book for work (boring). So I desperately need some new recommendations. But here's what I'm loving lately: Black Keys, Adele, Avett Brothers, Drive By Truckers. Lather Rinse Repeat.

Annoyed by: The last time I wrote a Currently post I gave the same answer: the weather. I know everybody is loving the Spring temps, but I'm pretty ticked winter never stayed in Dixie. I mean for pete sakes, if it's 60+ degrees now we're gonna all have heat-strokes come August. I want to see just one snow, I want to wear my winter coats & hats & gloves, and I want to actually be cold enough to drink hot chocolate. Speaking of cold, how's this for irony? The other annoyance in my life is my husband's incessant need to turn our house into a meat locker every night. He sets the thermostat at 62 AND keeps an overhead fan running all night long. And he still tosses covers & complains about being hot. Unbelievable.

On My Nails: Have y'all seen the latest China Glaze Capitol Colors collection modeled after the Hunger Games series? I want every color! It's a gorgeous palette, but isn't available until early March. Bummer. So for now I'm wearing Essie's Smokin' Hot on my nails & OPI's Lincoln Park At Midnight on my toes.

Watching: I think I've professed my love for Downton Abbey a zillion times here, so that should go without saying. But just in case... I'm obsessed with season 2 of Downton Abbey! Speaking of, have y'all seen the mash-up of Downton & the Super Bowl? Hilarious. In addition to Edwardian dramas, we're also into Justified (although it scares the crap out of me) Modern Family, Big Bang Theory, and the new season of The Voice, which by the way puts American Idol to shame imo. And another season of Mad Men is on the horizon. Cannot wait.

Planting: Nothing. It's February, so I'm just waiting for jonquils & tulips to bloom and enjoying the ornamental cabbage & pansies in our flower beds. I am getting psyched about planning our summer vegetable garden though! And I'm finding tons of inspiration (via my Pinterest board) for Spring window boxes & container gardens, like these lovelies:

Most Looking Forward To: Valentine's Day, of course! Jeff & I usually celebrate the holiday sometime during the weekend before the big day. Then on the 14th we'll make a cozy dinner, watch an old classic movie and exchange presents that hopefully include a lot of chocolate. So Saturday we've got reservations at Carpe Diem, a restaurant we've been dying to try, and will possibly see a movie. Any suggestions *besides* The Vow?? Not even for Valentine's Day could I get Jeff to sit through 2 hours of what's essentially The Notebook, part deux.

So that's what I'm Currently up to. What's new with y'all? What are you Currently...? Feel free to pen one of these posts on your blog as well - I'd love to see what's going on in your lives.
Happy Thursday y'all!

Ally, I want one of those burgers, even at 7am. And I'm jealous of your Career Barbie wardrobe. I copied this and posted a blog of my own, only to realize it was a pretty Debbie Downer post. Oh well...thanks for the inspiration to post :)

Oh my gosh, what a shot. I was in bed so I didn't see it. Unbelievable.

Your food looked good.

I'd go back to eating meat ft just to eat that burger, honey, wow! That looks way too good to just be a photo on your blog.

I always love reading what you're up to as it's always so interesting. I'm actually planning a trip to Charlotte in the very near future—possibly this summer—just to get away with the family. So, I'll keep your recommendation in mind for a possible outing :)

Duke fan, eh? Well, I'm a longtime Tarheel fan as I grew up loving MJ and Dean Smith as a youth. So, I'm the opposite of your emotion after that buzzer beater last night :(.

Currently, I'm blogging, getting my baby boy ready for soccer season, prepping my daughter for her spring tap/ballet recital, gearing up for a trip to our nation's capital for the Cherry Blossom Festival, and looking forward to surprising my baby brother on his birthday which only comes once every four-years.

In other words, I'm pretty busy right now. LOL!

Always a pleasure to check in and see what you're up to, Ally. Hope all is well and tell that hubby to at least keep the fan off...brrrr, I feel for you on that one.

i love the 'currently' posts. =) hope you + jeff have a wonderful valentine's dinner out this weekend, then a fun valentine's at home. currently, things are pretty normal around here - since i'm working from home, i'm almost always wearing yoga pants + a comfy top, so the fashion front hasn't been all that exciting. =) i am reading a bunch of good books (i read more than one a once, too) + planning our valentine's dinner at home. gotta come up with something good!

Wednesday night is TV night at our house. Love Modern Family and Top Chef. I also love Big Bang - "bazinga".

I think Career barbie looks classy. Much nicer than Jersey shore barbie,ha! If Jersey shore doesn't have a barbie, I need to get on that right away!

I agree...No winter here in TX. So sad. It will be 1000 degrees come summer. Hopefully no drought this year!

I loved this post. I may borrow this idea at least once a month. It was fun to read.
I've been on my fannie alot this past week since I started (and finished) the first season of Downton Abbey. You were right! I think I may have convinced a few other people to jump on the wagon with us. And Modern Family.... the hubs and I LOVE that show.
I'm wishing for a vacation to. I guess I am kinda getting that this coming weekend. My husband is running in the Myrtle Beach Marathon next Saturday so me, Tristan and Steve are heading down Friday afternoon and coming back Sunday. It will be a short trip but at least it will be a break from the norm. That will be nice. And who knows.. with this winter we may actually get to play on the beach in February. Although.... I am looking forward to the COLD this weekend and I am really bummed we didn't plan a quick trip up the mountain.
