Well hello again lovelies! Long time no see. I hope y'all have had a terrific Christmas and got everything you wished for from Santa :) I've missed blogging the last 3 weeks and missed so much chatting with all of my bloggy friends, but I seriously needed the unplugged vacation. Since we last met here, Jeff & I threw 3 Holiday parties at our home, attended 4 others, I took a girls trip to Asheville, completed all of my 12 Before 2012, and celebrated Christmas with family in Birmingham. It was a blast & blessed, but I'm exhausted... in a good way. My only complaint is that once again the Christmas season just flew by. I mean, how is it possible that we're just 2 short days away from a new year?
Speaking of time flying, New Year's Eve is upon us and that may mean snazzy parties, cocktail dresses, new resolutions, and midnight kisses, but it also means the bell is tolling for the end of another college football season. Teh sadness. So the only proper way to say goodbye to 4 glorious months of fabulous tailgates & thrilling games is to throw an epic bowl game bash, of course! As much as I love to head for Athens or Tuscaloosa and catch a Gameday live, couchgating for Bowl Games can be tons of fun and a marvelous excuse to throw a helluva party. And I've got some pretty spectacular ideas for your spread! After a short trip to The Grove Park Inn for New Year's Eve, we're hosting a little soiree Sunday for all of the bowl games and a few of these delish little numbers will be making an appearance:
Where. To. Start.... Well certainly the whiskey caramel bacon bark & peanut butter whoopie pies will make you slap yo mama. That goes without saying, no? The sin dip, bubble bread, and taquitos will require a little extra time at the gym, but clearly they're worth it. And the moonshine manhattans, baked fontina & salted caramel shortbread will get you through the madness of another Holiday and leave a smile on your face. Cheers y'all! :) Btw, if you need a little more bowl game party inspiration and even more recipes, check out my SEC Gamedays board on Pinterest!
Now unless you're new to the blog, you know my position on college football: there's the SEC and then there's everybody else. While I'd watch a bunch chimpanzees toss around the pigskin to get a football fix, nothing holds my undivided attention in the postseason like SEC teams. And the games begin TODAY, my friends, starting with the fighting bizarro bulldogs of Mississippi State. There are loads of terrific matchups in the coming week, but set your DVRs for these 9 SEC teams who are going bowling:
- Music City Bowl Mississippi State vs Wake Forest Dec 30 6:40pm ESPN
- Liberty Bowl Vanderbilt vs Cincinnati Dec 31 3:30pm ABC
- Chick-fil-A Bowl Auburn vs Virginia Dec 31 7:30pm ESPN
- Outback Bowl Georgia vs Michigan State Jan 2 1pm ABC
- Capital One Bowl South Carolina vs Nebraska Jan 2 1pm ESPN
- Gator Bowl Florida vs Ohio State Jan 2 1pm ESPN2
- Cotton Bowl Arkansas vs Kansas State Jan 6 8pm FOX
- BCS Championship LSU vs Alabama Jan 9 8:30pm ESPN
Santa was very good to my husband this year - we leave for New Orleans a week from today and will be in the Superdome for the game!! For the record, that's twice in the last 3 years that we've spent his birthday watching Bama play for a national title and ZERO times we've seen Georgia play for the crystal football. My Dawgs are due, dammit. And when we do make that title game, you can bet Jeff will be buying tickets. I will have certainly earned it. Fingers crossed it'll happen before Jesus comes back. So who are y'all picking in the SEC bowls? I've got MSU, Cincy, Auburn, UGA (Go Dawgs!), SC, Gators, Arky and Bama. While I firmly believe LSU's gonna take it to Bama again, I want to stay happily married so... Roll Tide!
Before we close the door on Southern Fried Football for the year, I have some exciting news to share! If you'll remember back in August I blogged a clip of a terrific documentary my friend Victoria, her husband & their Production Company created about SEC fandom called Pigskins & Magnolias. Well the documentary is finished and online to view for free! It's truly spectacular y'all. In between watching all the games this weekend, check out the movie with your friends and share it with all of the SEC fans in your life! Also be sure to like Pigskin & Magnolias' facebook page and leave a comment on your thoughts of the docu. I know they'd love some feedback from diehard SEC fans!
Finally, I just wanted to thank all of y'all for making this college football season so much fun for me. I can't say enough how much I appreciate all of your lovely comments and for spreading the word about this blog series. I hope you've enjoyed it as much as I have! As always, I hope your team wins this postseason, just not against mine.
Go Dawgs & Roll Tide!!

Yay, so great to see a new post from you on my reader :) While the recipes are beyond my own culinary capabilities, I think perhaps I can pull the White Sangria for NYE. We'll get drunk the classy way, haha.
NOLA! <3 Have an awesome time!
And Happy New Year Ally!!!
I discovered your blog a few days ago and I have really enjoyed reading it and bookmarking several recipes. Thank you!
Hope you have a very Happy New Year!
Isabel: Aww, thank you so much! Graet to be back :) And you're selling yourself short doll, most of these recipes are so easy to make. But the White Sangria is a good call. Happy New Year to you too sweet friend - thank you!
Pink Putter: Well thank you so very much. I'm delighted you stumbled onto my little space. You'll have to let me know which recipes are your faves. Hope you have a terrific New Year as well!
That Georgia game was a stinker wasn't it - ugh. If I had had some of these delightful goodies surrounding me during the game, it might have been easier to handle than the lonely bag of Cheetos me and the fam were munching on. Oh well, always next year right?? Happy New Year to you and your family!!
