Firefly Spiked Arnold Palmer
This Saturday as Jeff & I are at the marquis SEC game of the week, Arkansas at Bama, my Georgia Bulldawgs will be in Oxford, Mississippi to take on the Ole Miss Rebels Bears. So it should come as no surprise that this week's SEC feature on Southern Fried Football is the University of Mississippi! Now I was born & raised a Georgia girl, then married a Bama Man, but I've always had a lot of love for Ole Miss. You can't grow up in Dixie and not have a deep appreciation for the quintessential southern town and the University that gave us William Faulkner. It only took 1 trip to Ole Miss, including a stroll through the legendary Grove on Gameday as a child, for me to see why it's widely considered the most charming place in all of the SEC. For Dawg fans and SEC fans this season that have the good fortune to play at Ole Miss, you're truly in for a tailgating treat! As Ole Miss fans have famously said for years: "We may not win every game, but we ain't never lost a party." Truer words were never spoken. So here are a few must see things to do in Oxford, MS on an Ole Miss Gameday weekend.
1. The Grove - The most famous tailgating spot in America. Under the canopy of 100 year old oak trees on 10 acres of beautiful green space are rows of red & blue tents filled with Rebel fans dressed in their Sunday best throwing the best party you'll ever attend. Bank on it.
2. Rowan Oak - Even if you're not as big a fan of one of America's greatest Writers as I am, you must take time to visit the historic home of William Faulkner.
3. Oxford's Square - The center of downtown Oxford, filled with historic antebellum architecture, shops, restaurants, bars and tons of students.
4. Confederate Cemetery - Resting place for more than 700 Confederate Soldiers who all perished on the grounds of Ole Miss during the war of northern aggression. A must-see for Civil War history buffs!
5. Restaurants - Oxford, MS has become a highly acclaimed destination for Food Critics and consequently is home to some spectacular fare from eateries like City Grocery, 208, The Downtown Grill, and Ravine.
6. Gameday at Ole Miss - Ole Miss has a few different regulations you likely won't see on other SEC campuses. For instance, there is no open flame while tailgating on The Grove. There's also no alcohol, although it's famously known you can indulge in a libation as long as it's in a red solo cup. So rather than insulting the fine folks of Ole Miss, click the link of their Gameday A-Z guide which lists in great detail everything you need to know about Gamedays in Oxford.
Just as there are a host of things to do on Ole Miss Gamedays, there's a lot to see as well. And at the top of the list are Men in bow ties and Mississippi Belles dressed in their finest Fall Saturday outfits. There are so many red & blue dresses out for this Fall, but I absolutely love this darling red striped frock from Adabelle's Boutique.

Whether you're in beautiful Oxford, Mississippi or at any other SEC venue this weekend branch out and enjoy the sights of what makes SEC football so much fun. Be sure to let me know who y'all are cheering for this weekend. Like always I'm picking my UGA and Hubby's Bama. Regardless, I hope your team wins, just not while they're playing mine ;) Go Dawgs & Roll Tide!!

I just love this segment of yours!!! Your fashion taste is just amazing and I have yet to hate anything you have posted!
The food looks divine!
Aww, thank you so much! You are always so encouraging doll - I really appreciate it & am so glad you love this series. I have a blast writing it & chatting with everybody about it each week!
favorite food in this post: the eggrolls! favorite piece from your fashion segment: i'm torn between the dress + the adorable boots. you have me seriously jonesing for a shopping trip today -- i may give in + treat myself to a half-day of work + a half-day of fun. =)
Such a cute segment! We'll be on the Plains this weekend cheering on husband's Tigers and taking our three-year-old to her first ever college game. That's almost too much excitment for us!
I love the featured outfit and the ladies of Ole Miss usually don't disapoint in the fashion department. Southern Living featured Ole Miss (and LeeAnn Touhy) in last month's mag, too.
It's sure to be a great SEC weekend!
Amy: A friend of mine brought those eggrolls to our tailgate party last weekend & I could've eaten the whole plate. They are delicious! I loved those boots too and I think you're shopping craving is contagious - I'm thinking of cutting out of here early & heading out to find me a pair for the weekend :)
Beth: Aww, that's sounds so fun! I bet she'll have a blast. I'm no Auburn fan, but their Gamedays are really a lot of fun & I bet she'll love being in the stadium watching the Eagle and all the cheerleaders. I hope y'all have a terrific family Gameday!
I know, the September issue of Southern Living is my favorite next to the Christmas issue. It's always stocked with yummy recipes and fabulous Gameday style features. Their online tailgate section is also pretty awesome this year.
So fun! I love the outfit and food inspiration.
Thanks so much! I love writing this tailgate series :)
Ooooh, girl. I may be a Dawg now, but I always cheer for the Rebels!
Haha! I totally understand. Undergrad loyalty always comes first. Either way, i hope it's a great game rather than a reproduction of Keystone Cops that I'm expecting from both squads.
Hope you're loving your time at UGA! Thanks so much for stopping by & leaving a comment :)
Aww, Happy Fall! Nothing says Fall quite like game day!!! Your choices are perfect and the menu sounds devine. One day I hope to experience a little Ole' Miss Game Day myself!
I can't decide if I love or hate these posts. I love the outfits you pick and the food looks delicious but I hate that I can't go to a game or partake in the food! Regardless, I read all the recipes and then wipe off the drool that has somehow accumulated on my keyboard and go back to planning a dream southern vacation. Thanks for all the blog love lately, it really brightens my day when I see that you commented on a post of mine! Hope your weekend is fabulous :)
Love this post! GO GATORS :)
Michelle: Happy Fall to you to my dear! I'm so glad you liked the menu & post. Ole Miss is a fun place to visit that for sure. You would LOVE it! Thanks so much for the sweet comment as always. i hope you have a terrific weekend!
Kelly: Aww, you are always so sweet Kelly. I hope you do get to a game soon, but in the meantime you should host a football Saturday party with all your cool DC friends! You could get dressed up, make some tailgating food, watch a game then hit the town with your girls. THAT would be a chic DC gameday :)
Regardless, I'm just so glad you keep stopping by to comment. You always make me giggle and I love how much you love the South. And doll, the feeling is mutual. I'm so glad you first stopped by my little space because i've so enjoyed finding yours. I love hearing about your fabulous, fun DC life! Have a great weekend and thanks so much for the lovely comment. You made my day!
Sara: Thank you so much for stopping by my blog & leaving a comment. Hope you have a great Gameday weekend!
You never fail to get me psyched about gameday! Oh...an there's a surprise for you over at our blog!
Kristin: I am beyond surprised! WOW, thank you so very much for the blog love from you & Meg. I fell in love with Bon Bon Rose Girls and because of you Ladies I decided to start my own little space. It's just such a thrill to be featured in a post on your blog!
I'm beyond grateful to you fabulous Ladies. Thank you again! Please extend my gratitude to Meg as well.
Loooved the intro to this post. It makes me wish I could be somewhere with this feeling of community tradition and fun :) Back home we have USC vs. UCLA (go Bruins!), but even then most of us are only casual fans -- the sheer number of people doesn't lend itself to a real sense of community unless you went to one of those schools. The closest thing I have now is living in a city that has an NFL team (Chargers), but I'm a Colts fan so I can't even cheer on my team here. Or even the baseball... Always been a Dodger girl but can't tell a Padres fan that! I think this city girl needs a break and visit the south, haha. That got reeeeeally long winded, sorry :P
Isabel: Hey, long-winded comments are always welcome here :) This is how crazy passionate SEC teams are compared to everyone else in all of sports: LSU is playing at West Virginia tomorrow. Naturally, LSU fans arrived early today to start tailgating (that how we do). Evidently an LSU fan or 3 started running into classrooms yelling "TIGAH BAIT!!" and then promptly got arrested. See, we even let our fandom drive us straight to the pokey. An SEC game is waiting on you whenever you're ready, doll ;)
Cute outfit! Game day is up and almost everyone in America is tuning in to catch their favorite teams' matches. If you're green like me, then check out these useful tips on how to green your game day. I found this video tips on YouTube. http://youtu.be/bXCTr8b_FxA
