I'm in Chicago all week on business missing my husband something fierce. In the last 30 days I've seen him a total of 11 days. He's been flying back & forth to New York or Philadelphia for work during the week. So we've only spent time together on the weekends, usually at a Bama or UGA game. We're still planning on heading to Athens for the UGA/Miss State game when I fly back home Friday. But I get him all to myself Sunday... well at least for a little while.
We have plans for a leisurely dinner just the 2 of us at Customshop, a Foodie's paradise that I've been dying to try. Then we're meeting up with our Couple's Sunday School class for a movie. Not just any movie, though. We've got tickets to see the premiere of Courageous, a faith-based film from the makers of Fireproof and Facing The Giants. In case you're not familiar, Courageous is about four men who make their living in law enforcement as heroes to the community, but are failing as husbands and fathers at home. That is until they rediscover their faith and commit to being the men God created them to be. My description sounds incredibly trite I'm sure, so take a minute to watch the trailer. And grab a kleenex.
You don't have to be religious to understand the importance of the family structure in American society. With divorce rates still hovering around 50%, even among Christians, and an increasing number of children being raised without Fathers in the home, the importance of films like these can't be understated. Have you ever noticed how often in American entertainment husbands & fathers are portrayed as either a doofus or a cheating louse? You don't have to look too closely to see it, sadly. It's great to celebrate women who can do it all: be fantastic wives, mothers & run the boardroom. But it's also important to honor men for being great husbands, fathers & leaders at home. This film Courageous goes a long way to do just that.
Jeff & I hope to be parents one day soon. But in the meantime, I'm so thankful to God that Jeff is a good man, a spiritual leader in our home, a loving husband & provider, and desires to one day be a great father as well. As a girl who came from a broken home, that means the world to me! It's no small wonder why I've missed him so much this week.
I hope y'all think about taking the fathers and husbands in your life to see this movie, if for no other reason than to thank them for being such amazing men. Let me know what you think about the trailer y'all and tell me all about your fabulous Fall weekend plans coming up!

I'm also looking forward to seeing this movie. And as a wife of a great father-figure I can tell you it is SO important not only for our daughter, but for me! God designed families for a reason, it's a hard road alone.
Hope the weekend gets here soon! And don't let those cow bells get to you. ;)
i love this post, ally + am so glad you + jeff are getting some quality time together soon. my husband + i are having a reconnecting weekend, too - taking a little weekend trip to Kansas City, just the two of us. checking out some restaurants, museums, + a Chiefs game. i can't wait!
I completely understand how you feel--- with MB's work, rugby and wedding planning craziness, I feel like we haven't spent any quality time together!
I completely agree about Courageous-- I've been dying to see it and we NEED more movies like this!
Enjoy your quality time with Jeff!
I haven't seen any of those movies. I should check them out.
I LOVE that Anthro top. I usually find their clothes too expensive(despite how much I love them) and only shop the sale room, but their knit tops like that are always pretty reasonable & good quality.
Beth: Amen sister!! I always love hearing about men who are great fathers & husbands. Your family is undoubtedly blessed :)
Amy: That sounds like a FANTASTIC weekend! I'm jealous - I've always wanted to go to Kansas City. I hope you newlyweds have a romantic time together enjoying some delicious BBQ & the Chiefs game!
Bink: It's tough being away form the men we depend on and adore, especially as newly engaged or newlyweds like us. Hoping life slows down for the both of us. And I'm so happy for you that God sent you a great man too :)
Agreed! I'm hoping that lots of folks go see this movie & send Hollywood a message that Americans will support family-friendly, men-honoring movies like Courageous.
Lauren: I don't know if you remember this or not, but Facing The Giants is the film that Coach Richt made a cameo. And Fireproof was a great film about protecting marriages. Y'all should rent them - they're not gonna be Oscar winners, but the storylines are fantastic.
You're so right about Anthropologie - their pieces can be pricey, but boy they have great sales!
Im so loving this look! I have those leopard flats actually check them out in the Disney World places pic! HaHa Now Ive got to get the rest of this! Love it girl!
Yes in deed we are looking forward to seeing this movie. We loved Fire Proof and we think this one will be excellent as well.
I know without a doubt that y'all are going to be great parents and any child will be happy to have y'all as parents.
Such a cute jacket! Glad you shared this! Well said.
I've heard great things about this movie!
Definitely going to have to see it :)
I Hope you and your hubby get some great quality time in soon!

1. OMG I love that outfit! The top, the earrings, the gold watch that is on my birthday wish list and I can't believe that jacket is only $12! I see a trip to H&M in my immediate future...
2. So jealous that you are in Chicago! I spent my birthday weekend there last year with my mom and sister and we had such a wonderful time. My dad's side is planning a family reunion next summer and all the cousins are lobbying for Chicago. Shopping, sports, great restaurants, and easy to get to from all over the country :)
3. You and your husband sound like you have such a strong relationship and I'm glad that you guys stay active but carve out quality alone time. I think that is the mark of a good relationship, that you can be apart so much but still place a priority on maintaining your together time.
4. Thanks for the movie recommendation! I'll definitely be checking this out.
Phew, all done :)
I've seen "Facing The Giants", but not "Fireproof", so thanks for the movie tip. And, oh to be in Chicago! I love Chi-town; one of my best friends currently resides in the Windy City but, alas, more than a day without my man is too much for me so I feel you on getting back home.
Thanks for the movie tip, girl!
Work trips are so hard, especially when they are never-ending. Glad y'all have time scheduled to just be.
Is Fireproof the one based on Love Dare? I loved that if so.
