Much to my surprise and delight I recently received a Blogger Award from the gorgeous & talented Jenny Sue Makeup. Seven Random Things About Myself:
  1. I'm double-jointed in my shoulders. I gross people out by straightening my arms behind my back, hands together & rotate arms 360 degrees, without bending my elbows or unclasping my hands.
  2. I grew up across the street from Edwin McCain. He was my swim team coach & sang at my wedding reception.
  3. I accidentally killed my brother's pet gerbil Herschel as a kid. I put him in our vcr, thinking it was like a labyrinth inside. Then put in a Disney tape & pressed play :(
  4. I worked for an International Aid NGO & lived in Jos, Nigeria for 7 years after college.
  5. I've eaten fried termites (Nigerian popcorn), ox kidney, and goat's liver - all while living in Africa.
  6. I streaked down South Lumpkin in Athens, Georgia wearing nothing but my bracelets on a dare. And no, i was sober haha.
  7. I met my husband Jeff while grabbing some lunch with a friend at The Vortex in Atlanta after an appointment at Emory. He was in Atlanta on business & at The Vortex with colleagues for lunch. He saw me, left his friends with his lunch in hand and just sat down at our table uninvited. It was bold & brash, but Cary Grant-like charming. And just like that, I was smitten ;)

Congrats, hon! Gracious knows you deserve tons of love for this great little piece of art you have over here—I'm definitely a forever fan. And, I must thank you for the nod for Living Fit Mommy. You're such a sweetheart for giving me a shout :)

Love the tidbits. I was a huge Edwin McCain fan back in the day—who wasn't? He has the most beautiful voice and to have him croon away at your nuptials had to be a superb treat for all.

Another great story about you and Jeff. I love great "we met this way" stories. I always marvel at connections that came together via random, unexpected, situations and that one will definitely be a great one to tell your future brood. Just darling.

Thanks so much again for the nod and...7 years in Nigeria? Wow, girl, what a phenomenal woman of God you truly are—you amaze me daily. Thanks for being a consistent inspiration on every level!

Hugs!!!

Kim - Thank you sweet Kim. I love both of your blogs (obviously), but thought you'd probably have more fun doing an award post like this with your Living Fit Mommy blog. Plus all the guys that read your Dawgs blog would make fun of you for a post like this haha. Guys are so lame ;)

Yeah Edwin is a sweetie. His Dad was my Pediatrician growing up. And his sister Robin was our babysitter. They're a sweet family.

You didn't know i worked in Nigeria? for some reason i thought you already knew that. Best, but definitely the toughest, years of my life.

Kelli - Thank you too doll! I know, i'm a huge Jason Aldean fan too! I've been trying for months to find out where he got his UGA guitar strap that he wears. I think it must be custom though. Did you know Jason Aldean & Edwin played a show together last week? They played the Georgia Theatre for a benefit concert. Great artists AND great guys!

Congrats to both of you Ladies. You each run 2 of my favorite daily blog clicks. I hope y'all have fun doing this post as much as i did :)

what a fun post + thanks for awarding my blog. i loved reading your responses, except the one about the gerbil. EEK! just kidding (sorta). i loved how you met your husband -- too cute.

my husband + i sort of met the same way. i arrived (slightly late) to a wine tasting + most of the seats were taken, i stood there, wondering what to do. he looked up, waved me over, + said, come sit at my table. that was 5 years ago + we've been friends ever since, dating for the last 3 years, engaged for almost a year + married for a few months. isn't it crazy how things work?!

I know. I still feel horrible about that! But in my defense, I was only 6 and didn't know he would die. I really thought it would be a fun maze and somehow had the idea that he would appear on our tv while running through it, haha.

Awww, i love that story about your hubs. I didn't know y'all were friends before dating! They say the best marriages are built exactly like that. What a sweet guy your man is ;)

Thank you for the award!! I'm flattered!!!

Now, really, you're kidding about the gerbil right? It's a horrible fate but I can't help giggling about thinking what was going through lil Ally's mind back then! I'm dying!!!

Ally Garner said...

Oh girl, i wish i were kidding about Herschel's early demise, but sadly no. It was horrible. And yes, i was way too precocious for my own good back then.....and now. Don't tell PETA on me mmmkay? ;)

I am SO jealous of Edwin McCain. My ex introduced me to his music (aside from the radio hits) and we used to go to concerts all the time. I still love him & wish I could see him in concert more. We danced to "I'll Be" at our reception--typical, but I loved it :)

You are a brave woman to streak down S.Lumpkin!

Ally Garner said...

I know, most people only think of Edwin's few radio hits & believe all of his music is cheesy, but he's so far removed from that. And still, I'll Be is a great song. We danced to it at our wedding too :)

Yeah, streaking down Lumpkin was not one of my finer moments, for sure lol.
